What is the Nomad Visa?


Traditionally, a nomad is someone who moves from place to place without settling down. In the modern world, digital nomads use technology to work remotely while traveling the globe. With Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit, you can enjoy legal residency while continuing to work for a company outside of Malta. This program provides a flexible way to live in one of Europe’s most desirable destinations for up to four years.

List of Documents required for the application


• Application form (Form N4)
• Letter of Intent
• Europass CV or similar document
• Proof of remote work (employment contract, service agreements, business ownership etc…)
• Proof of health insurance coverage in Malta
• GDPR form
• IF applicable, Change of Name document
• IF minor dependents are included in the application, parents’ declaration is required. IF custody was awarded relative documentation must be provided.
• In the case of de facto partnerships:

• Joint bank accounts
• Proof of relationship
• Notarised affidavits from relationship witness

Electronic copy of


• Valid passport of all individuals within the application.
• Birth certificates of all individuals
• PCC of all individuals above the age of 18
• IF spouse is included in the application, marriage certificate is required.
• 3 months bank statement

Agent declaration


• Proof of accommodation (following Approval in Principle)
• N.B. Any documentation that is submitted for vetting and is not in the English language, must be accompanied by a certified translation.

• Can reside in Malta without contributing to its tax system
• Pay taxes in your home country while contributing to the Maltese economy through accommodation, food, and leisure.
• Employees, freelancers or self-employed professionals who generate their income from outside Malta, are eligible for a Nomad Visa.
• Visa will be valid for one year, renewable for up to four years.
• Whole families are also eligible along with the main applicant. These include the spouse and minor and/or adult children of the MA and/or spouse (adults must not be married and must be principally financially dependent on the MA).
• Settle in amongst an English-speaking population with a wide expat community construed of nearly 30% of the total Maltese population (NSO, 2023).

• Eligibility to travel throughout the Schengen zone for a total of 90 days out of 180 days.
• Minors will benefit from a vast selection of prestigious governmental, church or private schools. On the other hand, adults can opt for language or evening classes.
• One can apply for education courses within Schengen zone, provided that you adhere to the above travel limit. This allows for flexibility in pursuing educational opportunities across Europe. This also applies for healthcare.
• Malta’s healthcare system ranks among the best in Europe, with Malta placed 5th in the Euro Health Consumer Index for accessibility and quality of care.

Key Requirements


• Cannot be working for a Maltese company
• Applicant must be over 18 years old and must possess a clean criminal record
• Employed, self-employed, or freelance with a gross annual income of €42,000 or more.
• Main applicant must hold proof of accommodation
throughout authorisation, either by renting or purchasing a property, and must spend at least 5 months in Malta.
• Proof of property rental and health insurance.
• Family members can join you.
• A €300 permit fee and a €27.50 card fee to be paid to the Maltese authorities.

Q1. Which category do I fall into?
A – To apply for a digital Nomad visa, one must prove that they fit under any one of the following three categories: (I) Employed – possessing a contract of employment registered in a foreign country and a valid 3 month bank statement showing a monthly income of not less than €3,500 per month; (II) Self-employed – possessing ownership or shareholder status from a foreign active company, together with a valid 3 month bank statement; (III) Freelance – possessing service agreements with foreign business entities offering freelance or consulting services together with a valid 3 month bank statement.
Q2. What are my accommodation options?
A – One can opt to rent or purchase an individual property with not limitations. Alternatively, one can opt to co-habit, in which case, declarations and other relevant documents will be required.
Q3. Can I choose an accommodation and half way through my permit, change my address?

Q4. Can your company assist with finding a job in Malta?
Of course, one can apply for a change of address online by submitting a filled in change-in-application form

Absolutely not! More documentation is required in such cases, but sexual orientation is not a factor that affects the probability of success. Malta is deemed as an EU leader in civil society rights, and the state takes all the necessary precautions to be without prejudice.
